The Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (IMS BHU) stands as a beacon of medical education and healthcare in Northern India. Located in the holy city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, IMS BHU operates a 1,200-bed Sir Sunderlal Hospital that provides tertiary care to patients from across Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Nepal. Our institute is deeply committed to the vision of its founder, Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, who emphasized the synthesis of scientific knowledge with human values.

The Sir Sunderlal Hospital, attached to the institute, is a tertiary care referral center equipped with advanced medical technology including MRI, CT scan, cardiac catheterization lab, and fully automated laboratories.

Research on tuberculosis, malaria, dengue, hepatitis, and emerging infectious diseases. Our team has published extensively on antibiotic resistance patterns in Eastern UP.

With 1,200 beds and 40 specialty departments, Sir Sunderlal Hospital serves as a tertiary care referral center for Eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states. The hospital handles over 800,000 outpatient visits and 40,000 inpatient admissions annually.
Our hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic facilities including 3 Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT scan, digital subtraction angiography, linear accelerators for radiation therapy, and fully automated laboratory services.
